LEARN from love
how hands fit together
arms wrap around strong
a door is opening
tomorrow knows
we are READY
to love beyond rules
beyond all that divides
WE ARE ready
for a future built on JOY

“Women, if the soul of our nation is to be saved, I believe that we must become its soul.”
-Coretta Scott King
When I read this quote aloud, I pause. Can a nation built on enslaved labor and genocide of native peoples have a soul to save? It’s a lot to ask. So much bloodshed, so much sacrifice has led toward painfully slow gains in freedom and justice for all. Dr. King asked "How long? Not long."
My mother’s heart holds onto hope for my children and all the children to see a brighter future that centers caring, nurturing, wellness, safety for all. Is that what she meant by “become the soul”?
My heart is broken by the realization that some knowingly choose harm to come to their neighbors, including those in my family. I pray for the protection of my loved ones and strangers who are made more vulnerable by hateful rhetoric and legislation. I know that we will continue to dance and sing in celebration and mourning. We will find joy and beauty in each other and in nature.
Winter can be long, but spring arrives right on time.
We are here.
We are.
Please stay.
This is my prayer.
